Shine On, Star Sailors!!!

The season is over. OLSotS took first and second place in our two divisions. Not bad, eh?

[--insert happy dance here--]

I've said it so many times that I'm probably starting to sound like a scratched CD (broken-record is just so passé.) These kids are fantastic!

It has been an honor to serve as bowling coach. I've learned a whole lot about communicating with kids, and I've had a bunch of fun in the process. They all worked so hard, and kept trying even though at times it could be discouraging. "Keep it on the lane," Coach Roger would say to the kids, like he said to me so many years ago. Well, based on their results, and constantly climbing scores, it would seem that they've learned from us also. I hope that they'll have us back again next year.

I'd also like to say thank-you to all the kids and parents for the great gifts. The Star blanket has been great for keeping my legs warm during late night baby feedings. The matching shirt and onesie is totally cute and I can't wait 'till André can fit it so we can take father-son photos. And the Andiamo gift card will be great for a special date night with my wife, Christa. Also, Coach Roger says "thank you," for the gas card.

Welcome to Rusty Coaching!!!

A lot has happened in the past week that led up to my creation of this blog. But rather than tell the long story, I'll make it quick: I've been given the opportunity to serve as head coach for the Our Lady Star of the Sea bowling program. Yeah!!!

OLSotS participates in the Catholic Youth Organization league of the Archdiocese of Detroit. The CYO league gives 4th-8th graders an environment where they can learn bowling fundamentals, teamwork, and a healthy sense of competition in a safe environment based on Catholic values.

My first practice with the team is on Thursday at 3:45p. I've been reading the USBC site for coaching tips. I've also been studying the CYO League Manual and Bowling Rules. Tomorrow I'll watch the St. Lawrence team practice in Utica to see how they do it. And of course, I've started this blog to keep track of our progress.

Wish us luck!!!
